The Åland app – simplifies everyday life on the island
As a resident, how do you stay up-to-date on everything that happens and is important in the local area? Ålandstidningen, the local newspaper and the agency Vibb, in collaboration with the local business community, culture and associations, have cracked the code and are now launching the Åland app!
In the summer of 2022, Ålandstidningen, the leading media house on Åland, in collaboration with Vibb, an innovative locally rooted digital agency, launched the Åland App.
The goal is to simplify everyday life for the Ålanders by presenting everything that is important in everyday life in one and the same channel. The Åland app contains the latest news, important community information, the lunch guide, hiking trails, events, activities and much, much more. Everything is updated in real-time and pulled directly from the sources' websites and social media. To ensure relevance, users can tailor the content according to their interests to filter out the information they want to read.
The app launched based on Innocode's News App/Community app after a shorter project spanning just three months. The project evaluated different content sources, presentations and commercial surfaces to maximize value for users. The layout in the app will now, after launch, be continually updated by Ålandstidningen and Vibb themselves in the flexible backend tool to follow seasons and cover the needs that users see.
Ålandstidningen and Vibb have really challenged us and the technology in the project to find the best possible solutions for readers and advertisers. The result is impressive and has given us incredible inspiration for our collaborations with other media houses and the public sector.
