The best laid plans of mice and men
Jake Taylor - Design and Technology Lead | The Connective
Despite ambitious plans and the best intentions, many public projects fail to engage citizens. Citizen-centricity is no longer just a good idea – it’s an expectation. It either drives engagement, or it kills it.
To create services and solutions that actually work, municipal leaders need to stop thinking like a city and instead see things from the residents’ perspective. Jake Taylor, an expert in behavioral design and smart cities, explores how digital expectations shape the interaction between cities and citizens. Why ease and simplicity are key to success – and who’s actually responsible for making sure the right information reaches the right person.

What does it mean for a municipality to work long-term with citizen involvement?
Øyvind S. Tanum and Kristin Solhaug Næss | stedskaping.no
Why is this so important? A municipality’s communication with its residents forms the foundation for dialogue between local authorities and the community. One of the challenges is that even when we aim for clear and simple communication, messages, dilemmas, and decision-making processes in a municipality can often be complex and difficult to understand. Achieving success over time requires more than a few successful projects – it is a continuous process.
Listen to Stedskaping as they share insights and experiences on how Nordic municipalities can use digital engagement as a tool. They present concrete cases and dilemmas and hope this contributes to shared learning and development of citizen involvement and trust in Norwegian communities.
